A 37-year-old Woorabinda man has been charged after an elderly Kingaroy couple allegedly found him inside their house on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Police were called to the residence in Earl Street about 2:20pm.<\/p>\n

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney, said the couple confronted the man who allegedly claimed people were chasing him, before arming himself with a knife from the couple’s kitchen.<\/p>\n

Police arrested the man at the front of the house and took him to the Kingaroy Watchhouse.<\/p>\n

He was due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates on Thursday charged with unlawful entry and trespassing as well as breaching a domestic violence order on September 22 in Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

Snr Sgt Tierney said Kingaroy police were also investigating the theft of several items from a house in Booth Street on Wednesday night.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Entry was gained through an unlocked and open rear sliding door,” Snr Sgt Tierney said.<\/p>\n

“The offenders have stolen a PS4, iWatch and have used keys to access a vehicle and stolen a purse and contents from a vehicle parked in the driveway.\u00a0 Investigations are continuing.”<\/p>\n

Snr Sgt Tierney said that with the warmer weather and holidays approaching, he would like to stress the need for residents to ensure they locked their dwellings, not just when they were out but when they were home, too.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Offenders will take advantage of the warmer weather to commit offences such as these, knowing people will leave doors and windows open and unlocked,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Police are actively patrolling in residential areas but unfortunately can\u2019t be everywhere at one time.<\/p>\n

“Residents need to take all precautions to ensure they don\u2019t become the victims of sneak offences, including by fitting secure locks to window and door screens and using these at all times.<\/p>\n

“Whilst it is true the old adage a man\u2019s home is his castle, even castles had moats to prevent unwanted guests.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
