Nanango, suffering from a lack of match practice and still struggling to field players, were defeated 58-28 in their A Grade match against the Mustangs at Murgon on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

This is only the second time this season that the Stags have been able to field a senior team, and despite an excess of enthusiasm at times, their defence sadly let them down.<\/p>\n

Murgon were methodical in their try-scoring with Peter Bligh picking up four – including a bounce around the goal-posts four minutes from half-time – and Charlie Paiwan three.<\/p>\n

Their goal-kicking was also outstanding with Gary Pigeon kicking 8 from 8 before he finally missed a conversion. Pigeon finished the day with 9 from 10 goals … an amazing performance.<\/p>\n

At half-time Murgon led 30-6. The Mustangs resumed their attack just three minutes into the second half, with Luke Bond scoring a messy try after multiple players scrambled for the ball over the line.<\/p>\n

Then after two tries to Bligh, and the score at 48-6, Murgon dozed off, letting in four Nanango tries in succession, including one that the vocal home crowd claimed was off a forward pass.<\/p>\n

With the score at 48-28, Murgon were stung back into action. With seven minutes left on the clock, Tim Brunjes scored (and Pigeon finally missed a kick).<\/p>\n

Then with just four minutes to go, Nanango conceded a penalty in front of the posts. A quick tap led to Charlie Paiwan picking up his hat-trick and Gary Pigeon kicking his ninth conversion.<\/p>\n

The final score was 58-28.<\/p>\n

For Nanango, Drew Jackson and Shane Williams both scored a double.<\/p>\n

Another strong run from Murgon … charging towards the Stags’ \u00a0line<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/center>Kingaroy defeated Wondai 34-26 in a closely fought A Grade match at Wondai on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Ashley Smallwood scored a double for Kingaroy. Other try scorers for the Red Ants were Mick Jarvis, Jamie Tews, Dallas Allery and Mick Robinson. Matt Allen kicked five goals.<\/p>\n

Try scorers for the Wolves were Danny Alberts, Shane Borninkhof, Luke Hedges, Troy Kerkow and Shane Cliff. Luke Hedges kicked two conversions, and Danny Alberts one.<\/p>\n

At Cherbourg, the Hornets downed the Blackbutt Timbertowners 54-22.<\/p>\n
