A special presentation to recognise a hard-working local volunteer was made at the\u00a0Wide Bay & Burnett District RSL conference held in Kingaroy at the weekend.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy-Memerambi Sub-Branch president Don Davey was presented with a 2020 RSL Anzac of the Year Award by RSL\u00a0Queensland State president Tony Ferris.<\/p>\n

The award was announced in April but the presentation was delayed due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Mr Davey was finally presented with the award in front of representatives from the Wide Bay & Burnett RSL sub-branches on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

He was one of just two Queenslanders presented with the national award this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr Davey\u00a0is a former president of the RSL Wide Bay-Burnett District and has served as president of the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch since 2009.<\/p>\n

He was recognised for his innovative leadership, compassion and devotion to the support of veterans and the wider Kingaroy community.<\/p>\n

The second Queenslander recognised in the 2020 awards was Mackay resident\u00a0Michael Goodwin<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>OAM.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He was honoured for his dedicated leadership of Mackay North State High School\u2019s Lest We Forget Project since 1998.<\/p>\n

Mr Ferris commended both Mr Davey and Mr Goodwin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBoth are highly deserving of this honour which is testament to the influential and inspirational positions they occupy not just within their own communities but across the nation,\u201d Mr Ferris said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey exemplify the Anzac spirit and are committed to applying its qualities of ingenuity, endurance, courage, mateship and good humour to everything they do.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other national recipients of the award were Geoffrey Tattersall (South Australia),\u00a0 Karen Christensen (Victoria) and David Scott (Western Australia).<\/p>\n
