The Queensland Farmers\u2019 Federation says Queenslanders have a lot to celebrate on National Agriculture Day (November 20).<\/p>\n

CEO Dr Georgina Davis said the day provided an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the pivotal role agriculture has played in the country\u2019s history, and will continue to play into the future.<\/p>\n

She said Queensland’s 24,000 farming businesses produced some of the highest quality food, fibre and foliage in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe value of the sector remains strong despite disruption from COVID-19. (It is) worth almost $17 billion and represents 12 per cent of Queensland\u2019s total exports,\u201d Dr Davis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgriculture employs over 300,000 Queenslanders across the whole food supply chain, meaning roughly one in seven Queenslanders are employed by the food sector while all enjoy its produce.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Davis said National Agriculture Day was also an opportunity to educate the public about the agriculture sector and how they can better support farmers during a challenging time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWith so many farmers contending with the COVID-19 pandemic, rising input costs and a protracted drought, there’s never been a better time to stand with our farming communities,\u201d Dr Davis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBuying local produce and paying a fair price for it is the best way Queensland consumers can support the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdditionally, many farmers are now offering agritourism experiences, from produce tastings, regional markets, farm and winery tours, to cooking classes, and farm stays. <\/p>\n

“Regional Queensland is an attractive destination for interstate travellers and for Queenslanders to discover their own backyard.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy supporting farmers with their wallets and their feet, consumers will continue to play an active role in helping to build more resilient farming businesses and ensure a bright future for Queensland agriculture.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
