H. Groom scholarship winner receives $5000 in half-yearly payments.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Kerry Shine said eligible applicants must be between 18 and 24 and in their second or third year of full-time study at TAFE Queensland South West or the University of Southern Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe selection requirements cover a student\u2019s first and\/or second-year academic achievement and their record of community service in arts, sport or charitable groups,\u201d Cr Shine said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cApplicants must have graduated from a Toowoomba Region high school and need to prove they attended high school in the region for a minimum of two years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents also need to indicate their willingness to continue full-time study in 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>southburnett.com.au<\/strong> raised the issue with Toowoomba Regional Council last year and were told the guidelines for the scholarship could be re-considered.<\/p>\n<p>However, a Council spokesperson confirmed on Friday that students must have graduated from a Toowoomba Region high school so students who graduated in Nanango or Kingaroy were still not eligible.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship was established in 2004 to mark the centenary of Toowoomba\u2019s proclamation as a city and to honour the achievements of Toowoomba\u2019s first mayor, William Henry Groom.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Crs Kerry Shine and Deputy Mayor Geoff McDonald will be visiting Cooyar and Yarraman on November 20.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They will be at Cooyar Memorial Hall from 9:30am and when finished there will be available at the Yarraman Memorial Hall.<\/p>\n<p>People wishing to make an appointment should ring the Community Development Officer on 13-18-72 to make a time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tertiary students in Yarraman and Cooyar will again miss out on the opportunity of applying for a $5000 Council scholarship, thanks to guidelines that stipulate they must have graduated from a high school within the boundaries of the Toowoomba Regional Council area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":285280,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,395],"tags":[70,35,176],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Yarraman Students Miss Out ...
