A $1.8 million QFES tri-service complex was opened in Kilkivan in September … now all it needs is a few more firefighters!<\/p>\n

The building houses the local State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Service volunteers as well as the town\u2019s auxiliary firefighters.<\/p>\n

Auxiliary firefighters are paid, casual, station-based firefighters who respond to emergency situations.<\/p>\n

They are in the red fire trucks and are an integral part of any front-line emergency and disaster response.<\/p>\n

QFES Area Commander (Gayndah) Kent Freeman said the Kilkivan station was looking for about five more community members to become auxiliary firefighters.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The auxiliaries attend all the usual emergencies – from house fires to car crashes.<\/p>\n

They must commit to attending 50 per cent of emergency incidents and taking part in ongoing skills acquisition, including first aid\/emergency care, requiring at least two hours per week.<\/p>\n
