An historic event will occur in Murgon on Thursday morning when the Aboriginal flag is flown for the first time on a new flagpole erected opposite the town’s War Memorial.<\/p>\n

Murgon RSL Sub-Branch vice-president – and Wakka Wakka Elder – Uncle Eric Law AM said it had been a long wait but he hoped it was another step on the path to Reconciliation.<\/p>\n

“In all my 70 years, I didn’t think I would get to see it,” the Vietnam veteran admitted.<\/p>\n

“It’s been a long wait but I think it’s going to be a good thing for both communities.”<\/p>\n

The flagpole is being erected on Council land with the support of the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

The flag-raising ceremony will be held at 8:30am on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Aboriginal Flag was officially raised for the first time outside the South Burnett Regional Council Chambers in Kingaroy in May 2019 and is now a permanent fixture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
