The LNP has promised to build the much-discussed Barlil Weir on Barambah Creek should it win office at the October 31 State Election.<\/p>\n

Opposition Leader and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington made the $20 million pledge on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Also promised was construction of the $25 million Cooranga Weir on the Boyne River, south of Mundubbera.<\/p>\n

Both projects were identified in the recent joint Burnett Water Feasibility study by the South and North Burnett regional councils.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said the Barlil Weir project would create about 3000 jobs while the Cooranga Weir would secure 900 existing jobs and create a further 2000 jobs once operating.<\/p>\n

She said the two weirs were a key part of her party\u2019s plan to double the value of Queensland\u2019s agricultural output by 2035.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said the new weirs would be in addition to the LNP\u2019s commitment to fix Paradise Dam and restore it to its full previous supply level.<\/p>\n

She said both projects would be fully funded by an LNP Government to get shovels in the ground as soon as possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n

LNP Member for Callide Colin Boyce said local growers have had to battle both drought and the State Labor Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cWater reliability is the biggest challenge farmers are facing and Labor has not lifted a finger to help us,\u201d Mr Boyce said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cooranga Weir will drought-proof the Munduberra fruit bowl and unlock this region\u2019s economic potential.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe LNP\u2019s investment in the weir will be repaid many times over with new jobs for local people \u2013 and that means more revenue to fund the schools, hospitals and police we need.\u201d<\/p>\n
