{"id":282204,"date":"2020-10-22T13:22:38","date_gmt":"2020-10-22T03:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=282204"},"modified":"2020-10-22T13:22:38","modified_gmt":"2020-10-22T03:22:38","slug":"industry-groups-join-forces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/10\/22\/industry-groups-join-forces\/","title":{"rendered":"Industry Groups Join Forces"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_215503\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-215503\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/somerset1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-215503\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/somerset1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-215503\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">AgForce Qld president Georgie Somerset<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>October 22, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Five industry lobby groups have joined forces to urge whichever party wins the State Election to prioritise &#8220;revenue, regions and reasonable regulation&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The five groups are AgForce, the Queensland Resources Council, Queensland Tourism Industry Council, Property Council of Australia and Timber Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>They have called on the next Queensland Government to commit to &#8220;developing the State\u2019s regions, stabilising the Budget and collaborating effectively with industry bodies on regulation&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>AgForce general president Georgie Somerset said regional Queensland was the engine room of the State\u2019s economy and needed appropriate policy settings to be able to deliver maximum value for all Queenslanders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgriculture \u2013 driven by around 18,000 primarily family-owned farms who feed and clothe us \u2013 pumps $18 billion into the economy annually and is the cornerstone of thousands of rural and regional communities,\u201d Mrs Somerset said.<\/p>\n<p>QRC chief executive Ian Macfarlane said each industry body shared the view that keeping Queenslanders earning, working and contributing to the State economy was the best way to respond to and overcome the challenges of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Queensland resources industry contributed $74 billion to the State economy last year and supported the jobs of 372,000 people, so we\u2019re asking the next government to work closely with our sector for the benefit of all Queenslanders to create more jobs and stimulate a strong economic recovery from COVID,\u201d Mr Macfarlane said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>QTIC CEO Daniel Gschwind said tourism delivered vital economic benefits to regional communities that supported thousands of jobs in all parts of the State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA partnership with government is critical to develop catalytic infrastructure and provide an efficient regulatory framework to fully activate tourism\u2019s potential for the recovery,\u201d Mr Gschwind said.<\/p>\n<p>Property Council Queensland executive director Chris Mountford said unlocking private sector investment must be at the forefront of any new government&#8217;s agenda.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The private sector is ready and willing to invest and create new jobs in Queensland, however without the right tax settings in place, that investment will find a new home elsewhere,&#8221; Mr Mountford said.<\/p>\n<p>Timber Qld CEO Mick Stephens said the forest products industry supported many regional jobs and delivered much-needed timber supply into the State\u2019s building and construction sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving more certainty around regulation and infrastructure will improve the investment environment and allow the industry to grow and further contribute to regional jobs and prosperity,\u201d Mr Stephens said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five industry lobby groups have joined forces to urge whichever party wins the State Election to prioritise &#8220;revenue, regions and reasonable regulation&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":269223,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,36],"tags":[1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
