Visitor numbers at the South Burnett’s two dams boomed in September, and shows no signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n

Cr Kathy Duff told Wednesday’s South Burnett Regional Council meeting that following her report about a 53 per cent increase in dam occupancy numbers in August, visitor numbers had continued to rise.<\/p>\n

Lake Boondooma Tourist Park hosted 1945 visitors in September, a 132 per cent increase on the 836 visitors it hosted during the same month a year ago.<\/p>\n

And Yallakool hosted 1309 visitors – 88 per cent more than the 694 it hosted last September.<\/p>\n

During the past month Council staff have been kept busy preparing both parks for the coming storm season, cleaning out gutters at both parks and carrying out tree maintenance.<\/p>\n

Magpie warning signs have also been erected.<\/p>\n

To ensure visitor safety, regular cleaning and disinfecting is also continuing to be undertaken by staff at both parks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cr Duff noted that during recent months Boondooma Dam had catered to two fishing competitions and Yallakool will host a concert featuring Troy Cassar-Daley on November 14.<\/p>\n

However, the ongoing rise in visitor numbers appeared to be stimulated by other factors.<\/p>\n

“With the COVID-19 border restrictions (still in place), it seems more Queenslanders are rediscovering our fantastic region!” Cr Duff said.<\/p>\n
