Three people were critically injured in a head-on crash on the Wide Bay Highway on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

Emergency services – including critical care paramedics – were called to the collision between an Isuzu dualcab ute and a Commodore sedan near Woolooga just after 10:30am.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson said one of the vehicles caught on fire after the crash.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A bystander managed to extinguish the flames before emergency services reached the scene.<\/p>\n

A QAS spokesperson said a man, aged in his 40s, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free by the QFES.<\/p>\n

He was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition with significant head, abdominal and limb injuries.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said a woman, also aged in her 40s, was airlifted in a critical condition to the same hospital with significant abdominal injuries. Another woman, aged in her 70s, was transported by road ambulance in a critical condition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with upper limb and abdominal injuries. Critical care paramedics accompanied her in the ambulance.<\/p>\n

Two rescue helicopters – from QGAir and RACQ LifeFlight – were called to the scene and landed near the crash site on the highway.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Wide Bay Highway was blocked for four hours while emergency services worked to stabilise the three patients.<\/p>\n

It reopened about 2:30pm.<\/p>\n

The Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the collision.<\/p>\n

Police have called for any witnesses – or motorists with dashcam footage – to contact Policelink on 13-14-44.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: Police have since clarified there were two men and a woman involved in the incident: A 59-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man from Veteran, in the Isuzu; and a 33-year-old Kilkivan man who was the driver and sole occupant of the Commodore.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
