Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington has promised to scrap what the LNP calls a “Grey Nomad Tax” if she is elected on October 31.<\/p>\n

The “tax” is transfer duty on new and secondhand campervans valued at more than $100,000.<\/p>\n

In 2018, the State Government extended a 2 per cent tax on luxury cars to all vehicles worth more than $100,000 and weighing less than 4.5 tonnes – which roped in most campervans.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said in Wednesday that as the average cost of a new motorhome or campervan was $140,000, the LNP’s policy would save buyers of new vehicles an average of $2800 per sale.<\/p>\n

The saving on a secondhand motorhome sold for $110,000 would be $2200.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said ditching the tax would save seniors money, encourage more drive tourism in Queensland and support local manufacturing jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Grey Nomad Tax was announced two days before the last election and it\u2019s ripping millions of dollars off retirees every year,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want seniors to buy more Queensland-made campervans and explore our great State.”<\/p>\n
