Up-and-coming AFL star Zimmorlei Farquharson, 18, has been drafted by the Brisbane Lions.<\/p>\n

Farquharson, from Concordia Lutheran College in Toowoomba, was one of Brisbane’s three allocated picks on AFLW Draft day last week, run virtually for the first time.<\/p>\n

She played for the Dalby Swans before turning out for the South Burnett Saints in 2018.<\/p>\n

She also kicked two goals for the Saints in Round 6 of this year’s shortened Darling Downs competition.<\/p>\n

Lions Senior Coach Craig Starcevich said it had been a strong draft year.<\/p>\n

Farquharson was the eighth pick in the full draft.<\/p>\n

She’s also a member of the Yeronga club, playing half forward and on the wing.<\/p>\n

The 172cm tall player has been praised for her aerial ability, athleticism and defensive pressure.<\/p>\n

Farquharson’s been a member of the Brisbane Lions Academy for four seasons and joined the AFLW National Academy two years ago.<\/p>\n

Saints’ players picked up two major awards at the end of the Darling Downs competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nathan Trace was named the Holman Medal winner – the second time he has won this prestigious award from accumulated “best on ground” votes after each round.<\/p>\n

In the women’s competition, Bree Pogany was awarded the\u00a0Heather Green Medal.<\/p>\n

At the South Burnett Saints club awards at the weekend,\u00a0Jimmy Flavel was awarded the\u00a0Gary Ruoso Memorial Development Award.<\/p>\n
