Somerset Regional Council will receive $635,000 under a jointly funded State and Federal disaster recovery scheme to develop the Mount Glen Rock Recreation and Nature Reserve.<\/p>\n

Council bought the historic mountain at Esk for $420,000 earlier this year with the aim of encouraging recreational tourism at the site.<\/p>\n

At the time, Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said community ownership of Mount Glen Rock would help the Somerset area expand existing tourism opportunities.<\/p>\n

The Local Economic Recovery program for Queensland has allocated $250,000 to construct Stage 1 of the project and $385,000 for Stage 2.<\/p>\n

Somerset Regional Council is one of five Queensland council areas affected by last year\u2019s bushfires which will share in more than $6 million under Round 1 of the scheme.<\/p>\n

Other projects are in Livingstone, Mareeba, Noosa and the Scenic Rim council areas.<\/p>\n
