Expressions of interest are now open for membership of the Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce which aims to connect job seekers and school leavers with training and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

The taskforce will be responsible for an area which includes the South Burnett, Cherbourg, North Burnett, Gympie, Bundaberg, Fraser Coast and Sunshine Coast council areas.<\/p>\n

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O\u2019Brien\u00a0said it would be chaired by Wide Bay Sunshine Coast employment facilitator Austin Ryann.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe taskforce\u00a0will use the valuable local knowledge of employers, employment and training providers and other stakeholders to develop projects appropriate to the local community, that will help get job seekers back into work,\u201d Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis local knowledge and collaboration is vital to enable people to access new opportunities without having to move away from the region.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the Taskforce needed members who “wished to make a difference”.<\/p>\n

“I encourage applications from passionate local people who want to help support their community,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be 25 Local Jobs and Skills Taskforces formed around Australia,\u00a0part of the Federal Government\u2019s $62.8 million Local Jobs Program.<\/p>\n

Each will have a maximum of 10 members.<\/p>\n

Applications are sought from diverse backgrounds.<\/p>\n

Taskforce members will be selected from a cross-section of key local stakeholders including employers, training organisations, employment service providers, local and State Government representatives, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community representatives and other community organisations.<\/p>\n

Expressions of interest close on October 6.<\/p>\n
