{"id":278626,"date":"2020-09-28T11:33:48","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T01:33:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=278626"},"modified":"2020-09-28T11:33:48","modified_gmt":"2020-09-28T01:33:48","slug":"mps-urged-to-lift-cardiac-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/09\/28\/mps-urged-to-lift-cardiac-services\/","title":{"rendered":"MPs Urged To Lift Cardiac Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>September 29, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Heart Foundation is urging whichever party wins the upcoming State Election to make fighting heart disease in regional and remote Queensland a priority.<\/p>\n<p>A Heart Foundation spokesperson said the Wide Bay region &#8211; including the South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie and North Burnett council areas &#8211; was Australia&#8217;s fourth biggest hotspot for heart-related hospitalisations, and the second worst in Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Queensland has eight of the nation\u2019s 20 worst hotspots for heart disease deaths, and 11 of the 20 worst for heart-related hospitalisations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Heart Foundation has listed four key priorities it says will help turn these figures around:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improving cardiac services for regional Queenslanders by continuing the delivery of outreach cardiac services across all regional areas;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring everyone can access cardiac rehabilitation programs by providing face-to-face group programs or remote delivered programs;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Continuing work towards ending the burden of rheumatic heart disease in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Boosting funding for the Queensland Cardiac Outcomes Register of heart conditions to improve the safety and quality of cardiac care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Outreach cardiac services involve a team of heart health professionals visiting country areas to provide patient consultations, follow-ups, and specialised tests.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cardiac rehabilitation is a program of exercise, health education, and social support that helps people recover after a heart event or procedure, stay healthy, and keep out of hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The Heart Foundation said that on average, 15 people die and 246 are taken to hospital due to heart disease every day in Queensland.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #006699;\">Heart Disease Hotspots<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Queensland regions with highest age-standardised rates of heart-related hospitalisations, with national ranking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Queensland Outback (2)<\/li>\n<li>Wide Bay (4)<\/li>\n<li>Ipswich (5)<\/li>\n<li>Moreton Bay-North (7)<\/li>\n<li>Mackay-Isaac-Whitsundays (9)<\/li>\n<li>Logan-Beaudesert (11)<\/li>\n<li>Central Queensland (12)<\/li>\n<li>Brisbane-North (13)<\/li>\n<li>Darling Downs-Maranoa (14)<\/li>\n<li>Cairns (15)<\/li>\n<li>Townsville (16)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regions with highest age-standardised rates of heart disease deaths, with national ranking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Queensland Outback (2)<\/li>\n<li>Logan-Beaudesert (3)<\/li>\n<li>Brisbane-South (6)<\/li>\n<li>Townsville (10)<\/li>\n<li>Darling Downs-Maranoa (12)<\/li>\n<li>Ipswich (13)<\/li>\n<li>Moreton Bay-North (17)<\/li>\n<li>Wide Bay (20)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Heart Foundation is urging whichever party wins the upcoming State Election to make fighting heart disease in regional and remote Queensland a priority.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":278627,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[172,3],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
