Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have imposed a local fire ban for residents in the Toowoomba Regional Council area – which includes Yarraman and Cooyar.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesperson said the local fire ban would begin at 1:00am on Thursday (September 24) for residents in the Toowoomba, Southern Downs, Goondiwindi, Western Downs, Maranoa, Murweh, Quilpie, Bulloo, Paroo and Balonne Local Government Areas.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said fire conditions were perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.<\/p>\n

Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled.<\/p>\n

Power tools may be used during a local fire ban, however QFES encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.<\/p>\n

This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.<\/p>\n

The ban is expected to remain in place until 11:59pm on Monday, September 28.<\/p>\n

A local fire ban has been in place since 1:00am on Wednesday (September 23) for residents in the Logan, Scenic Rim, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Somerset local government areas.<\/p>\n
