Queensland will be opening its borders to five more NSW local council areas from 1:00am on October 1.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Tuesday the shires of Byron, Ballina, Lismore City, Richmond Valley and Glen Innes would be added to the 11 local government areas already within the border zone.<\/p>\n

“(NSW) residents (in these shires) will be able to apply for a border pass and then they will be able to freely travel around Queensland,” Premier Palaszczuk said.<\/p>\n

“And Queenslanders will also be able to travel there as well.”<\/p>\n

Premier Palaszczuk also commented on the “shocking news out of the UK” in regards to a second wave there.<\/p>\n

She said the UK’s Chief Medical Officer had stated if they don’t do something rapidly, the UK could experience up to 50,000 cases a day by next month.<\/p>\n

“We don’t want to see that in Queensland and I thank Queenslanders for doing the right thing,” the Premier said.<\/p>\n

“What is happening overseas is very alarming, very concerning.”<\/p>\n

Health Minister Dr Steven Miles said there had been zero new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Queensland during the past 24 hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are currently 16 active cases in the State, and 4898 tests have been carried out during the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n

Four patients are currently in hospital.<\/p>\n

Dr Miles said it was 12 days since the last person thought to be infectious was in the Queensland community.<\/p>\n

“If we have two further days of no community transmission that will bring us to 14 days since that last case was thought to be infectious in the community,” Dr Miles said.<\/p>\n

“That’s the point at which the Chief Health Officer will be able to consider those restrictions that still apply throughout the Brisbane Metropolitan and West Moreton Hospital and Health Service districts.”<\/p>\n

Queensland Health released an updated list on Monday afternoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anyone who has been to any of these locations at these times should monitor their health and, if they develop even the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms, get tested.<\/p>\n
