A meeting to start discussions about public art across the South Burnett attracted representatives from Blackbutt to Proston on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The get-together was organised by South Burnett Arts president Olivia Everitt at the South Burnett Enterprise Centre in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

The meeting was also joined on Zoom by other participants.<\/p>\n

The discussion touched on various arts projects that have been suggested around the region as well as ways groups and individuals could collaborate to support each other and advance ideas.<\/p>\n

The inclusion of public art in Kingaroy’s transformation project was discussed as well as opportunities for proposed silo arts projects in Kingaroy and Proston to potentially co-operate.<\/p>\n

Olivia explained various funding opportunities that were opening soon, including various Regional Arts Fund grant schemes which are administered in Queensland via the Flying Arts Alliance.<\/p>\n

Funding could be sought for an Arts Project Officer to assist with projects and develop a strategic framework\u00a0for the region.<\/p>\n

The importance of community-run projects, ie. not relying on Council to make things happen, was also discussed.<\/p>\n

It has been proposed that the South Burnett Public Art Roundtable become a quarterly event, replacing the South Burnett Regional Council’s Creative Roundtable events which appear to have been discontinued.<\/p>\n
