{"id":274760,"date":"2020-09-04T10:31:06","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T00:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=274760"},"modified":"2020-09-04T10:31:06","modified_gmt":"2020-09-04T00:31:06","slug":"ergon-warning-after-near-misses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/09\/04\/ergon-warning-after-near-misses\/","title":{"rendered":"Ergon Warning After Near Misses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>September 4, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ergon Energy is pleading for all heavy machinery operators to take care and stay &#8220;line aware&#8221; after four separate incidents of equipment hitting powerlines during the past 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>There have been 346 serious incidents involving plant equipment this year in regional Queensland &#8211; including seven during past week and 26 last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had excavators and cane harvesters hitting poles and bringing down live powerlines in separate events in different parts of the State in the past few days \u2013 Tara, Ingham, Beaudesert and the Burdekin,\u201d area manager Nick Grant said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s obvious they didn\u2019t see the poles and wires because they hit them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAll the operators involved are very lucky not to have been killed, but no one should rely on luck when it comes to working around electricity.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nick said anyone operating heavy machinery on worksites where there are powerlines should plan ahead to ensure they\u2019re familiar with where poles and wires are located.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cErgon Energy has the Look Up And Live app on the App Store or at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lookupandlive.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.lookupandlive.com.au<\/a><\/strong>,\u201d Nick said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can help map out risks for operators to show where those power poles and wires are, especially if they are operating machinery in unfamiliar territory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of us have mobile phones these days and free, lifesaving safety advice is at our fingertips.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick said anyone involved in an incident that brings down powerlines should stay in the vehicle, call 000 and wait for help.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"740\" height=\"410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/71TSUh4qI00?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ergon Energy is pleading for all heavy machinery operators to take care and stay &#8220;line aware&#8221; after four separate incidents of equipment hitting powerlines during the past 48 hours.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":274763,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3],"tags":[32],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
