{"id":274621,"date":"2020-09-02T20:28:11","date_gmt":"2020-09-02T10:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=274621"},"modified":"2020-09-02T20:28:11","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T10:28:11","slug":"council-policy-aims-to-cut-discounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/09\/02\/council-policy-aims-to-cut-discounts\/","title":{"rendered":"Council Policy Aims To Cut Discounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_257956\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-257956\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-257956\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20200511council2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20200511council2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20200511council2-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20200511council2-269x167.jpg 269w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20200511council2-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20200511council2-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-257956\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The SBRC is calling for public input on a new policy that will affect community groups and infrastructure charges<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>September 2, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The South Burnett Regional Council has called for public comment on a new policy that could mean some community groups will have to pay full Council fees if they have received government funding to help with an infrastructure project.<\/p>\n<p>The new Community Group Infrastructure Charges Policy will offer community groups and charities a 100 per cent reduction in infrastructure charges if they construct new buildings or upgrade existing premises.<\/p>\n<p>Infrastructure charges aim to recover the cost of connecting buildings to key trunk infrastructure such as water and sewerage mains.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However, to receive the full fee waiver applicants will need to show they are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A registered not-for-profit group or charity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>That they are undertaking a development that benefits the South Burnett community; and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>That they have not received funding from a government source in the past two years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>If a group has received funding from the government &#8211; the most common way many community groups fund upgrades &#8211; they will need to pay at least 50 per cent of Council&#8217;s infrastructure charges.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And if Council deems the group fails to meet one of its eligibility tests, they will pay the full charge.<\/p>\n<p>If adopted, the policy will mean charities or not-for-profits which receive a government grant to build community infrastructure should allow for infrastructure charges in their grant application.<\/p>\n<p>If they fail to do this or have their request rejected by the funding body, they will need to carry the cost themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The new policy follows in the footsteps of other changes Council introduced in July 2017.<\/p>\n<p>At that time the SBRC slashed rebates on building application fees for community groups from almost 100 per cent down to a maximum of 50 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed new Community Group Infrastructure Charges Policy can be viewed on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southburnett.qld.gov.au\/downloads\/file\/4221\/community-group-infrastructure-charges-policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Council&#8217;s website<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Feedback can be made in writing <a href=\"mailto:planning@southburnett.qld.gov.au?subject=Community Group Infrastructure Charges Policy\"><b>by email<\/b><\/a> by 5:00pm on Monday, September 21.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related article: <a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2017\/05\/17\/council-to-cut-community-support\/\">Council To Cut Community Support<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The South Burnett Regional Council has called for public comment on a new policy that could mean some community groups will have to pay full Council fees if they have received government funding to help with an infrastructure project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":257956,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3],"tags":[1131],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
