Netball’s booming in the South Burnett … there’s a new combined competition running and now the Nanango Club has new-look courts, courtesy of a $51,000 grant from the local Heritage Community Branch in Nanango.<\/p>\n

Representatives from Heritage attended the official unveiling of the resurfaced courts on Friday evening.<\/p>\n

Nanango Netball club president Moira Early said without the help of Heritage the project to refurbish the courts would not have been possible.<\/p>\n

She said four courts had been repaired and resurfaced and were now much safer for the players.<\/p>\n

Children from Cooyar, Maidenwell and Yarraman as well as Nanango and Kingaroy use the facility.<\/p>\n

“So your generosity is far-reaching,” Moira told the Heritage officials.<\/p>\n

Heritage Community Branch (Nanango) director Graham Archdall said it was great to see so many young people out on a Friday night playing sport.<\/p>\n

He said he would like to thank the netball association for its strong support of Heritage and the many parents of netballers who also supported the branch.<\/p>\n

“We need people to do business with Heritage so we can give grants,” he said. “Without your support, we would not be able to give grants.”<\/p>\n

Nanango and Kingaroy clubs are playing in a joint competition this year – four weeks at Nanango, followed by four weeks at Kingaroy etc.<\/p>\n

There are about 120 players in both clubs, ranging from midgets (ages 5-8), juniors (ages 9-11), cadets (ages 12-15) and seniors (age 16 and above).<\/p>\n

There are eight teams each in the juniors and cadets competitions.<\/p>\n

All senior games are played in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n
