One new confirmed case of COVID-19 linked to the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre cluster was reported in Queensland on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

The Forest Lake resident is a close contact of one of the previous 10 cases in the cluster and was already in quarantine.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Dr Steven Miles said 20,856 tests had been conducted during the past 24 hours – a record number for Queensland.<\/p>\n

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said there had still been no community transmission due to the original five cases at the centre.<\/p>\n

“We need to keep alert for that,” Dr Young said.<\/p>\n

“There is still a risk over the next week that we will see that because those people were out and about in the community.”<\/p>\n

She said Queensland needed to keep up a very high rate of testing as the link for this cluster was still unknown.<\/p>\n

“Where did they actually originally get it from? Which means we could have more cases out there in the community that have resulted in this cluster,” Dr Young said.<\/p>\n

The final results of testing of staff and detainees at the Youth Detention Centre are expected to be known on Thursday.<\/p>\n

There are currently 16 active cases in Queensland.<\/p>\n

In Victoria, 24 more deaths were announced on Wednesday morning as well as 149 new confirmed cases.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although the death toll is Victoria’s second highest during this second wave, the number of new cases is continuing to trend downwards.<\/p>\n

The total Australian death toll since the pandemic began is now 549.<\/p>\n

Queensland Health released an updated list on Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anyone who has been to any of these locations at these times should monitor their health and, if they develop even the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms, get tested.<\/p>\n
