The Kingaroy Christmas Carnival is the latest victim of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Organising committee president Craig Lucas said the decision to cancel this year’s event had been made at the committee’s meeting last Thursday night.<\/p>\n

“Due to the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic it was agreed that unfortunately we will have to cancel this year’s Christmas Carnival,” Craig told southburnett.com.au<\/strong><\/p>\n

The decision was made after looking over the current Health Directions.<\/p>\n

Craig said it would have been too difficult to implement the 1.5 metre restrictions as well as wiping down rides after each child.<\/p>\n

“We would not have been able to put out seats for people to sit on,” he said.<\/p>\n

The committee had also noted that other events – scheduled to be held after the Kingaroy carnival – had also been cancelled.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Cancellation will protect the elderly, the young, our volunteers, in fact everybody,” he said.<\/p>\n

Craig said the decision to “call it early” was best for local businesses.<\/p>\n

“They are doing it tough and I’m not sure how much sponsorship we would have been going to get, as well,” he said.<\/p>\n

However, the organising committee hasn’t totally written off plans to do something to mark Christmas.<\/p>\n

“We are possibly looking at doing something a little later on this year, like a movie night where we can limit it to a certain number of people,” Craig said.<\/p>\n
