A good crowd turned out at the Nanango Cultural Centre this evening for the official opening of Nanart<\/strong>, the annual Nanango Arts Festival.<\/p>\n

Artists and arts supporters mingled amongst an impressive array of paintings, sculpture and craftwork.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Mayor Wayne Kratzmann<\/strong> congratulated the organising committee and said Nanart had been a leader in the arts community for many years. He said he felt privileged and proud to open the 12th anniversary exhibition.<\/p>\n

South Burnett artist Garry Eyre<\/strong>, who judged the painting and sculpture sections of the exhibition, said occasions like this were an opportunity for visual artists to “perform”. Performance artists such as singers and musicians practice their art in public, however visual artists can only perform their art by exhibiting it.<\/p>\n

He congratulated the artists on the high standard of the entries this year and said he had to award many “highly commendeds” as it was difficult to choose the winners.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm tomorrow and from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday.\u00a0More information is available on the Nanart website<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
