UPDATE August 31: Unfortunately, due to tightened COVID-19 restrictions in the South Burnett, the Open Day planned to be held at Kingaroy Art Gallery on Saturday, September 5, has had to be cancelled. The Gallery remains open\u00a0Monday-Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery will be re-opening with a flourish in September with three big exhibitions to entice visitors.<\/p>\n

Local artist Niketa Law will be returning for her second exhibition at the gallery with “Beyond The Dots”.<\/p>\n

Niketa’s debut exhibition in November 2018 was a huge success and popular with gallery patrons.<\/p>\n

The self-taught contemporary traditional Aboriginal artist is a proud Bindal\/Bigambul woman from Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

“I am influenced by the past and the present,” Niketa said. “Every piece I have produced has a unique story.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Gallery will be hosting an open day on Saturday, September 5, from 9:00am to about 3:00pm where Niketa will be guiding visitors.<\/p>\n

The second big attraction at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in September is Martin Shaw’s painting “Three Well Known Australians”.<\/p>\n

It’s not just an artwork but an interactive exhibition in which visitors are invited to guess the identity of the three figures and record their thoughts in the year book provided.<\/p>\n

Shaw says he did have three Australians in mind, or Australian themes, when he did the painting in 1982 – but he has refused to say who he originally had in mind.<\/p>\n

The painting, accompanied by letters and year books from past travels, makes for a fascinating and fun exhibition as it records the thoughts and guesses from previous exhibition visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese yearbooks form a portrait of Australia,” Martin said.<\/p>\n

“What people in 1983 thought is going to be different to what people think today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The artist thinks of the project as a rolling “historical social commentary” of Australia.<\/p>\n

The third display at the Kingaroy gallery during September, “Findings and Grindings\u201d, is being put on by the South Burnett Gem and Fossicking Club Inc. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The variety of exhibits demonstrates the enthusiasm of club members for\u00a0sharing their passion for the gems found locally and from around Australia.<\/p>\n

If you have an interest in gemstones, crystals or minerals this exhibition provides an opportunity to enhance your understanding and appreciation of these natural wonders.<\/p>\n

The club meet and has workshops on Mondays and Thursdays.<\/p>\n
