Unit 2 at Tarong Power Station is about to undergo a $36.2 million overhaul which is tipped to pump millions of dollars into the local economy.<\/p>\n

Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said on Thursday the workforce for the Unit 2 shutdown would peak at about 500.<\/p>\n

Work is due to begin in mid-September – after initial delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic – and run into November.<\/p>\n

The focus will then shift to a scheduled overhaul of the generating unit at Tarong North.<\/p>\n

Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the two-month overhaul of Unit 2 was part of the power station\u2019s regular maintenance works, bringing extra workers on site in addition to the station\u2019s permanent workforce.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis overhaul will mean work for more than 30 South Burnett locals, as well as other workers bringing in all the flow-on benefits to local accommodation and hospitality providers, as well as the transport industry.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr Lynham said Stanwell Corporation would be putting in place COVID-safe measures to ensure the health safety of all the workers and the local community.<\/p>\n

Stanwell worked closely with Queensland Health to develop and implement a COVID-19 safety plan for both the overhaul workforce and the community before it started its recent maintenance work at Stanwell Power Station, near Rockhampton, and CS Energy\u2019s Callide Power Station near Biloela.<\/p>\n
