South Regional Council has urged local residents to “be alert, not alarmed” when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

A media statement on Thursday emphasised there are no current cases of COVID-19 in the\u00a0South Burnett.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) this morning has received advice from Queensland Health and Queensland Police Service that there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) currently in the South Burnett region,” the statement said.<\/p>\n

“The LDMG is aware that there has been alleged failure by two people in the South Burnett to quarantine in accordance with the Chief Health Officer directions for people re-entering Queensland from various parts of NSW and Victoria.<\/p>\n

“There is a large volume of media coverage surrounding this situation and the matter will be dealt with by the appropriate authorities who have taken action.<\/p>\n

“All agencies part of the LDMG currently monitor COVID-19 and restrictions and the LDMG will meet again next week to continue its co-operative approach in maintaining community safety within the South Burnett region.”<\/p>\n

The Council statement reminded residents that\u00a0Queensland Health wants everyone to play their part to protect themselves and the more vulnerable in the community:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Please follow the recommended advice from both the State and Federal Governments in regards to social distancing, public gatherings and general wellbeing. For more information surrounding the public health directions, please visit www.covid19.qld.gov.au<\/a><\/strong> or call 13-42-68.<\/p>\n

“Critically, make sure you are practising good hygiene and staying home if you\u2019re sick. Washing your hands properly and often is the gold standard of health advice that can help prevent viruses from entering your body.<\/p>\n

“Queensland Health is urging anyone who has been to a known COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days and has a fever or any respiratory symptoms to see a doctor immediately.<\/p>\n

“Please call ahead to the GP surgery and let them know your symptoms and travel history, this will help them prepare for your arrival.<\/p>\n

“Council urges residents to remain calm and thanks them for their understanding. Please be alert, not alarmed.<\/p>\n

“Members of the community are encouraged to keep informed on the latest health advice at www.health.qld.gov.au<\/a>,<\/strong> phoning 13 HEALTH or visiting Council\u2019s website COVID-19 page<\/a><\/strong> or Council\u2019s Facebook page<\/a><\/strong> for further information.”<\/p>\n

Two people were arrested in Nanango on Tuesday after allegedly providing false information on a border declaration when they entered Queensland at Goondiwindi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They were placed into mandatory hotel quarantine, outside the South Burnett, and will face charges in Richlands Magistrates Court.<\/p>\n

The results of their tests are unknown with a spokesperson citing patient confidentiality but Queensland Health reported there were no new confirmed cases in Queensland overall on Thursday.<\/p>\n
