Toowoomba agribusiness consultant Cynthia Hardy has been elected acting president of the Liberal National Party (LNP), the first woman to hold the position since the party was formed in 2008.<\/p>\n

She overcame two strong opponents to snare the role,\u00a0former LNP president Gary Spence and long-time party member and former LNP Federal candidate Bill Glasson AO.<\/p>\n

Dr Glasson, an opthalmologist and former president of the AMA, was well-known to South Burnett residents when he operated a fly-in clinic in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Mrs Hardy was formerly general manager of grain handling equipment manufacturer Benmic Industries, which she ran with her husband Ben.<\/p>\n

She also served as South-West Queensland Regional Policy Council representative for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland and held other senior CCIQ positions.<\/p>\n

Her career within the LNP includes chairing the party’s south-west region, and the Toowoomba South branch.<\/p>\n

She has served as LNP vice-president for more than a year and will now guide the party in the lead-up to the October 31 State election.<\/p>\n
