Teachers and school support staff have narrowly voted to reject proposed new enterprise agreements at 26 Lutheran schools in Queensland.<\/p>\n

Fifty-three per cent of votes in a recent ballot of employees rejected the proposed agreement.<\/p>\n

About 75 per cent of eligible staff took part in the vote.<\/p>\n

Independent Education Union \u2013 Queensland and Northern Territory (IEUA-QNT) Branch Secretary Terry Burke said the union had advised employees to vote no.<\/p>\n

The union claims the agreement would have resulted in “inferior and substandard working conditions”, a claim rejected by\u00a0Lutheran Education Queensland (LEQ).<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the first time employees in Queensland Lutheran schools have voted no in such a process and they have done so to protect their professional future,\u201d Mr Burke said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLEQ must now come back to the negotiating the table to achieve an outcome that respects and recognises the work of its employees.”<\/p>\n
