Farmers and businesses from Crows Nest to north of Kumbia have been invited to submit expressions of interest for unallocated water in the region.<\/p>\n

Natural Resources Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said there was a total of\u00a01275 ML of unallocated water available in the Crows Nest-Kumbia region and the northern part of the Scenic Rim.<\/p>\n

He said making\u00a0the water available was part of the State Government’s economic response to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cPart of Queensland\u2019s economic strategy is building on our traditional strengths like agriculture, as well as supporting Queensland businesses to grow,” Dr Lynham said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis area already produces hay, beef and a huge variety or fruit and vegetable crops, and now we want to see if there\u2019s scope for it to get bigger.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIf there\u2019s potential for expanded farming or even a wider range of commercial operations and more local jobs, we want to hear about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cExisting farmers could be interested in expanding or diversifying a crop in this already proven food bowl; there\u2019s scope for plant nurseries or even new tourism ventures to further cement this region\u2019s foodie credentials.”<\/p>\n

Landholders have until Sunday, August 9, to express their interest in the additional of water.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Any additional water allocations issued will include conditions to protect the environment and existing water users.<\/p>\n
