The Federal Government is inviting community groups to apply for funding for events during this year’s COVID-delayed NAIDOC Week.<\/p>\n

NAIDOC Week will be celebrated between November 8-15 after the pandemic forced plans for events in July to be postponed.<\/p>\n

The 2020 theme is “Always Was, Always Will Be”.<\/p>\n

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O\u2019Brien has encouraged communities in his electorate to apply for funding.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether it\u2019s a virtual event or an in-person event hosted in a COVID-safe manner, we know that all Australians are excited to start planning for NAIDOC Week, which this year provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase our resilience,\u201d Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n

\u201cButchulla, Gubbi Gubbi, Wakka Wakka and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people play a vital role in the story of Wide Bay,” he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said the grants would assist in enabling events to share culture as well as recognise and honour the contributions and achievements of Indigenous Australians.<\/p>\n

Applications close on August 17.<\/p>\n

Applicants from the previous round – which closed in March – will be contacted by the National Indigenous Australians Agency and provided guidance on how to re-apply.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
