{"id":266014,"date":"2020-07-20T12:47:04","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T02:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=266014"},"modified":"2020-07-20T12:47:04","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T02:47:04","slug":"focus-on-indigenous-tourism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/07\/20\/focus-on-indigenous-tourism\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus On Indigenous Tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_109745\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-109745\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/katejones1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-109745\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/katejones1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"271\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-109745\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tourism Minister Kate Jones<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>July 20, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Queensland&#8217;s &#8220;Year of Indigenous Tourism&#8221; has been stretched out into 2021 as the tourism industry continues to recover from the impacts of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQueensland\u2019s tourism and events industry is enduring an incredibly difficult year due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19,&#8221; Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it&#8217;s common sense now to extend the Year of Indigenous Tourism through into 2021 so we can further boost the profile of Indigenous experiences in Queensland as our State recovers from the COVID-19 outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier this year, we announced a new $10 million Indigenous tourism fund as part of the Year of Indigenous Tourism to help further develop this sector of the industry and create economic opportunities and jobs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bulk of this funding has not been spent as specific promotions and programs were forced on hold while we dealt with the COVID-19 outbreak.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tourism Minister Kate Jones said the Indigenous Tourism Sector Analysis report, released by Tourism and Events Queensland at the weekend, showed more than 420,000 visitors took part in an Indigenous tourism activity every year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indigenous tourism supports $505 million in visitor expenditure in Queensland in a normal year and employs nearly 2500 people on a full-time basis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis comprehensive supply and demand study is the first of its kind into Indigenous tourism in Queensland,\u201d Minister Jones said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt proves just how important Indigenous tourism will be to the future of the whole industry in Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis study (shows) the number of visitors participating in Indigenous tourism activities is growing at an average of 11.2 per cent per year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTourists and holidaymakers are seeking an authentic experience.
