The Queensland Justices Association’s South Burnett branch is happy to be back meeting after the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n

Chair Peter Verbakel said the group – which is open to all Justices of the Peace (JPs) and Commissioners for Declarations (Cdecs) – usually meets bimonthly at the Kingaroy RSL Club.<\/p>\n

It held its first COVID-safe meeting back at the club on Monday night.<\/p>\n

Peter said the regular get-togethers include professional development as well as a chance for JPs to swap experiences.<\/p>\n

Monday night’s “welcome back” was also an opportunity for members to inspect the new pull-up banners and tablecloth which the group bought after receiving $350 from Member for Nanango’s Deb Frecklington\u2019s Local Hero Grants.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The banner and tablecloth will help to make the JP community service offered at Kingaroy Shoppingworld more visible.<\/p>\n

This service, which was suspended due to COVID-19, is now also back in action.<\/p>\n

The group had planned to host a training course for would-be Cdecs and JPs in June or July but that had to be postponed due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n

“We are now trying to get another one up towards the end of the year,” Peter said.<\/p>\n

Anyone who is interested in becoming a Cdec or a JP should contact Peter by email<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
