Staff, former residents and their families of Farrhome Nursing Care Unit will gather to celebrate the wonderful memories, and friendships they have formed, with a special morning tea on Thursday, March 28.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Cluster Operations Manager Peta Rutherford said staff, former residents and local families decided a special occasion was needed to bid the nursing home a fond farewell.<\/p>\n

Ms Rutherford said in November 2012, it was announced due to Fire Safety regulations for Aged Care Facilities, that Farrhome Nursing Care Unit would cease operations by September 1, 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have worked closely with residents and families to support them in finding new accommodation. Many of the residents are remaining in the South Burnett area, while one has made the journey to New South Wales to be closer to his family,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFarrhome has been an aged care facility where many South Burnett families have felt secure in allowing the staff to care for their loved ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe transition has moved much faster than was originally planned, but many advised they wanted to be secure in their future arrangements.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll staff who wished to remain employed by the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service are currently being supported to upskill and find positions in other of local health facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Rutherford said the staff looked forward to celebrating the history of the facility and talking to residents and families about their future plans.<\/p>\n

Farrhome has invited past and present residents and their families as well as anyone who has worked in Farrhome to join the team for the Farewell Morning Tea on March 28.<\/p>\n
