{"id":264569,"date":"2020-07-14T15:22:52","date_gmt":"2020-07-14T05:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=264569"},"modified":"2020-07-14T15:24:28","modified_gmt":"2020-07-14T05:24:28","slug":"false-names-risk-big-fines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/07\/14\/false-names-risk-big-fines\/","title":{"rendered":"False Names Risk Big Fines"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_264570\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-264570\" style=\"width: 760px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/covid19banner.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-264570\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/covid19banner.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"760\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/covid19banner.png 760w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/covid19banner-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-264570\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The sign-in sheets at businesses are there for a reason &#8230; and you can be fined if you don&#8217;t fill them in correctly<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>July 14, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Customers who provide false contact details at venues &#8211; part of COVID Safe reopening directions &#8211; are putting the health of other Queenslanders at risk and risking a large fine.<\/p>\n<p>Queensland Health requires businesses such as restaurants, bars and clubs to collect and store the details of every person who enters their premises.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses that fail to collect and\/or produce contact tracing information face fines of $6672.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the information would be vital if a patron or staff member tested positive to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone with the disease has been to a venue, we urgently need to know who else might be at risk of infection,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHaving the names, phone numbers and email addresses of all customers and employees is critical in the event we have to carry out contact tracing and help minimise the spread of the disease.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTime is of the essence in this task, so businesses must have this information on hand so we can quickly track down people who may have been exposed and may need to be tested.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The approved Industry COVID Safe Plan and Restrictions on Businesses, Activities and Undertakings Direction (No. 3) also require operators to record the times people were on the premises. All businesses are obliged to heed privacy regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Young said while the vast majority of Queenslanders were compliant, there had been reports of customers providing either false or incomplete details.<\/p>\n<p><strong>People who fail to produce contact tracing information without a reasonable excuse can be fined $1334.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who provide fake names or numbers for whatever reason are not just putting themselves at risk, they\u2019re putting their own family and friends at risk,\u201d Dr Young said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, you need to know as soon as possible so you and your close contacts can act, including getting tested. Contact tracing is the safest and most effective way for that to happen.
