Mountain bike racing will be returning to the South Burnett next month with Wondai hosting Round 1 of the South-East Queensland Mountain Bike Series.<\/p>\n

The races will be held on August 8-9 on the bike trails in the McEuen Forestry.<\/p>\n

South Burnett MTB Club secretary Jason Wyeth said these would be the first mountain bike races held in the South Burnett for at least 20 years.<\/p>\n

Short course racing will be held on the Saturday plus a “come-and-try” morning for new riders.<\/p>\n

Racing will continue on Sunday with cross-country events.<\/p>\n

The races will be run across three courses: Junior (2km loop), short course (3.7km loop) and Sunday’s cross country (XCO) course (6.9km loop).<\/p>\n

Race lengths will vary across categories, with riders ranging in age from six to seniors.<\/p>\n

Jason said there was even a category for e-bikes, which was something unusual.<\/p>\n

He expects between 50 and 70 riders to register for the event, as it was the first in the series.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We will get the elite riders out because the points accumulate and will go towards\u00a0State-based championships,” Jason said.<\/p>\n

He also hopes there will be an economic spin-off for the region with riders staying one, and possibly two, nights in local accommodation.<\/p>\n

“We are hoping to get a lot of people from out of town,” he said.<\/p>\n

“As it’s early in the series, we will probably see riders come up on the Friday to take a look at the courses.”<\/p>\n

Jason said there would be food available across the two days and a coffee van on site.<\/p>\n
