Camping and cabin accommodation at the South Burnett’s two dams will remain closed, despite the easing of some COVID-19 restrictions by the State Government.<\/p>\n

A statement from the South Burnett Regional Council on Thursday said a “review and restructure” of the management of the facilities at Lake Boondooma and Bjelke-Petersen Dam meant the continued closure of accommodation facilities.<\/p>\n

The dams will continue to be open for day use only, from 6:00am to 6:00pm, for fishing and boating.<\/p>\n

Both facilities are expected to return to full operation by August 2020 (subject to any future Public Health Directives).<\/p>\n

“Council acknowledges a number of our valued clients will be disappointed with the tourist parks’ delayed opening, however, Council\u2019s decision to introduce new management arrangements at this time is expected to minimise the financial impact on ratepayers,” the Council statement said.<\/p>\n

“With revenue over coming months expected to be well below normal, coupled with increased cleaning and operational costs under the initial easing of COVID-19 restrictions requirements, now is the best time to reassess management options.”<\/p>\n

The Council statement said\u00a0winter was traditionally a quieter time at the dams.<\/p>\n

“On top of this a percentage of our clientele travel from southern States at this time of the year and these patrons will be prevented from visiting by the current border closures,” the Council statement continued.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Council is also mindful of the need to be extremely cautious in ensuring all appropriate safety measures and operational procedures are in place to protect our patrons and staff from the potential spread of COVID-19 prior to re-opening.<\/p>\n

“As such, Council is working to implement the appropriate COVID safe arrangements as a matter of priority.<\/p>\n

“Council will investigate and consider options to allow some form of restricted accommodation prior to full re-opening in August, however no firm decisions have been made at this time.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
