A bunch of proud South Burnett foster mums and dads were presented with “thank you” awards at Moffatdale Ridge cellardoor this week as part of Foster and Kinship Carer Week.<\/p>\n

There were almost 70 people present at the function, including 45 carers – each of whom was presented with a gift.<\/p>\n

The major award – the Central Queensland Regional Foster and Kinship Carer Excellence Award – \u00a0was presented to Yvonne and Alf Pawlik \u00a0for their “exemplary commitment to opening up their home and hearts to foster children”.<\/p>\n

Over the years the couple have fostered between 20 and 25 children … in truth, they’ve lost count.<\/p>\n

At the moment, they have six children all under the age of 11.<\/p>\n

Yvonne told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> they had been fostering children for 14 years but they don’t understand what all the fuss is about.<\/p>\n

“We’ve just got a normal life,” she said.<\/p>\n

The couple has also raised five children of their own.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe (foster children) have enriched our lives and are an important part of our family and community,\u201d Yvonne said.<\/p>\n

Child Safety Minister Tracy Davis said the couple was an example of the dedicated service of all foster and kinship carers.<\/p>\n

Also presented with awards on the day were Dudley and Cheryl Dobson, Betty Turner and Christine and Stephen Annas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Burnett CTC Partners in Foster Care service manager Susan Jerome said she was proud to say all the carers who won awards were affiliated with “Partners”.<\/p>\n

She said a function was held in the South Burnett every year as part of \u00a0Foster and Kinship Carer Week to recognise and appreciate carers for the work they do.<\/p>\n

Member for Callide Jeff Seeney also congratulated the carers, thanking them for their service to the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe efforts of these people in keeping children safe from harm go above and beyond the call of duty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope all Queenslanders are aware of the dedication and contribution of our foster and kinship carers.\u201d<\/p>\n
