Yarraman Library … Toowoomba Council is reopening library facilities in stages to protect the health of the community and staff<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

May 21, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

Toowoomba Regional Council will begin re-opening library services from next Monday (May 25) with reduced hours and a new “Reserve and Collect” process.<\/p>\n

The re-openings will not include mobile library services at this stage.<\/p>\n

Mayor Paul Antonio said Council was committed to reopening facilities as soon as practical, however, this would need to be done through a staged-process to ensure the health and wellbeing of staff and residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe staged reopening of library buildings will be different to what residents are used to but this is necessary to help everyone comply with the updated health restrictions,\u201d Mayor Antonio said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ‘Reserve and Collect’ service is an innovation that allows the library user to reserve items, such as books, magazines and DVDs through the library\u2019s online catalogue or the MyTRLibrary app.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs reserved items become available for collection, customers will be alerted by their chosen notification method of email, phone call, text message, or letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo minimise visits to the library, Council will increase the total items that a customer can borrow from 15 to 20 in this initial phase.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrent social distancing requirements mean that customers may have to queue to collect their items.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this stage, current health precautions will see reduced library operating hours and some services such as the mobile library, in-branch borrowing and browsing, and the use of public computers are not available.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cr Tim McMahon said other library services and programs would be gradually re-introduced on a staged-basis, consistent with the State Government\u2019s Roadmap to Easing Restrictions.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll return chutes will reopen, and customers can return their borrowed items. We also provide wi-fi access free to the public outside all libraries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnline membership is currently available for new members and provides access to the library\u2019s online resources.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo join the library, all you have to do is complete the online membership form available on the \u2018Using Your Library\u2019 page on council\u2019s website<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
