South Burnett Regional Council\u2019s flood recovery efforts were acknowledged when two council officers received the 2013 Local Government Managers of Australia Queensland Procurement Professional Award yesterday.<\/p>\n

The awards were presented to Maurie McGuire and Gary Wall at the LGMAQ’s annual Procurement Gala Dinner.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Flood Recovery Team has been working hard since 2011 to ensure contractors and staff rebuilt South Burnett Region\u2019s road network,\u201d council CEO Ken McLoughlin said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil engaged the services of Maurie McGuire in January 2012 as Project Manager to lead the management of the flood works.<\/p>\n

“Mr Gary Wall, General Manager Finance, oversaw the procurement from an accounting and legal perspective, and was the co-nominee for the award.<\/p>\n

“Maurie and Gary\u2019s combined skillset was exceptional and resulted in achievements that made them eligible for the Procurement Professional Award.”<\/p>\n

Mr McLoughlin said the award was a fitting recognition of the duo’s long-standing community service commitment and dedication to the 2011 flood recovery effort.<\/p>\n

“As with many regions across Queensland, the South Burnett experienced the devastation of the 2010\/11 floods. There was extensive damage to the road network. The damage in the South Burnett Regional Council area was estimated at $57 million.<\/p>\n

“They have raised the procurement \u2018bar\u2019 to a new level and this standard is now the norm in the South Burnett Regional Council and across local government in Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe South Burnett was on show at the gala dinner due to the efforts of these dedicated professional staff.”<\/p>\n
