The South Burnett, North Burnett and Bundaberg regional councils will receive $338,000 to combat pests and weeds.<\/p>\n

The councils successfully submitted a project – “Wide Bay Burnett Fighting Back” – to the $10 million second round of the Federal Government’s “Communities Combating Pest and Weed Impacts During Drought Program”.<\/p>\n

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud said 33 councils have been funded under the latest round of the program, either individually or as part of a consortium.<\/p>\n

\u201cManaging pests and weeds is a significant cost at the best of times for farmers and even more of an impost for those in the grips of the drought,\u201d Minister Littleproud said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe capacity of these farmers to manage pests and weeds during drought is reduced because they are dealing with other challenges such as feeding livestock and keeping their farm businesses running.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Australian Government set up the Communities Combating Pest and Weed Impacts During Drought Program to ensure our drought-hit regions have the resources to manage these scourges at a time when they are least able to do so.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
