Darling Downs Health has taken the opportunity of International Nurses Day (May 12) to highlight the importance of nurses and midwives, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Darling Downs Health Executive Director Nursing and Midwifery Ms Andrea Nagle said the celebration of International Day of the Midwife (May 5) and\u00a0International Nurses Day held even further significance in 2020, as it was also the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started this year with a calendar packed with events, including international guest speakers,\u201d Ms Nagle said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the COVID-19 pandemic has paused these planned celebrations, it has also shone a spotlight on the nursing and midwifery professions.<\/p>\n

\u201cNurses and midwives make up the largest part of our workforce.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur nurses and midwives are at the forefront of this pandemic, and are adapting as the situation changes and evolves to consistently provide patient-centred care.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout this pandemic our midwives are leading and providing strong support to women in their antenatal care, birthing and post-natal care \u2013 they have demonstrated, mobilised and united.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur nurses across all of our facilities are playing their part in nursing the world to health by caring for our Darling Downs Health communities.<\/p>\n
