The State Government is offering an additional $10 million in low-interest loans to help pork producers prepare for African Swine Fever<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The State Government has announced an extra $10 million has been tipped into its Sustainability Loans program to help pork producers prepare for African Swine Fever (ASF).<\/p>\n

The loans are for\u00a0ASF “preparedness activities”, ie. measures designed to help pork producers improve their biosecurity and reduce the risk ASF could pose to Queensland’s pork industry.<\/p>\n

Approved activities could include installing exclusion fencing; reconditioning or moving sheds to increase biosecurity; and increasing biosecurity at entry points (eg. acid washes, CCTV, and gate upgrades).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The loans are for amounts up to $1.3 million for a maximum of 20 years with low-interest rates fixed for one, three or five year terms.<\/p>\n

To be eligible, applicants must have been full-time primary producers for at least two years; have sound prospects for commercial viability; able to demonstrate need; can provide an adequate management plan; and can provide security for the loan.<\/p>\n
