Police will be out and about ensuring travellers are obeying the 50km COVID-19 non-essential travel limit this weekend.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that from 11:59pm on Friday some of the \u201cstay-at-home\u201d COVID-19 precautions would be eased slightly.<\/p>\n

People would be able to go for a drive; ride a motorbike, jetski or go boating for pleasure; or have a picnic – so long as they remained within a 50km radius of their principal place of residence.<\/p>\n

Sunwater then announced that both Boondooma and Bjelke-Petersen dams would reopen for picnics, swimming, fishing, boating or water ski-ing.<\/p>\n

Both dams will be open from 6:00am to 6:00pm but no camping will be allowed.<\/p>\n

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney said police would be doing operations across the weekend to ensure compliance with the 50km rule.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said travellers who were more than 50km from their principal place of residence would be turned around and sent back home.<\/p>\n

“The main aim of patrols will be education, but if action needs to be taken it will be,” Snr Sgt Tierney said.<\/p>\n

He said Kingaroy police had issued several fines for breaching the COVID-19 restrictions after they first came in but most people were now doing the right thing.<\/p>\n
