{"id":257390,"date":"2020-04-29T16:17:36","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T06:17:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=257390"},"modified":"2020-04-30T18:36:03","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T08:36:03","slug":"gympie-regional-council-ceo-resigns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2020\/04\/29\/gympie-regional-council-ceo-resigns\/","title":{"rendered":"Gympie Regional Council CEO Resigns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure id=\"attachment_257460\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-257460\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/20200429bernardsmith200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"349\" class=\"size-full wp-image-257460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/20200429bernardsmith200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/20200429bernardsmith200-172x300.jpg 172w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-257460\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Outgoing Gympie Regional Council CEO Bernard Smith (Photo: GRC)<\/figcaption><\/figure><strong>April 29, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gympie Regional Council will begin an immediate search for a new CEO following the sudden resignation of incumbent Bernard Smith on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Smith has been Gympie&#8217;s CEO since 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to taking over the reins, he served as General Manager of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council in NSW for eight years.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Smith&#8217;s resignation was accepted at an emergency meeting of the Council on Wednesday morning, and he will finish on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>During his term with Council, Mr Smith oversaw the the $22.2 million\u00a0Aquatic\u00a0and Recreation\u00a0Centre, Smithfield Street streetscape and Youth Precinct Recreation Hub projects as well as the rebirth of the Mary Valley Rattler.<\/p>\n<p>However, he also drew criticism over council spending.<\/p>\n<p>Council&#8217;s finances have run in the red for three of the past four years, including a $12 million operating loss last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gympie Council&#8217;s corporate and community director Pauline Gordon was appointed acting CEO later on Wednesday morning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She will remain in the role until the position can be filled.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Glen Hartwig told media Ms Gordon\u2019s previous experience in the role was a key part of the decision.<\/p>\n<p>He wished Mr Smith well in his future endeavours but said accepting his resignation was a &#8220;step forward&#8221; for the Council.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gympie Regional Council will begin an immediate search for a new CEO following the sudden resignation of incumbent Bernard Smith on Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":257461,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3],"tags":[1131],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
