An old con trick that has been doing the rounds of a country towns for years has “resurfaced” … this time in Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

Toowoomba Police have issued a warning to residents in relation to people purporting to work for a fictitious business.<\/p>\n

Police say the offenders tell homeowners they have leftover bitumen from a council job and they can fix up their driveway at a small cost.<\/p>\n

An inferior product, along with questionable workmanship is then done to complete the job very quickly.<\/p>\n

The workers then allegedly become aggressive if the finished job is questioned and they demand immediate payment before leaving without fixing the problems.<\/p>\n

Standover tactics are used, often demanding thousands of dollars from the victim.<\/p>\n

Police advise the public to always check the legitimacy of the organisation or individuals before engaging services.<\/p>\n

Avoid paying in cash and don\u2019t make any payments until the work has been completed and you are satisfied with the result.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Always obtain a written quote and do not feel pressured into accepting the service.<\/p>\n
