Cherbourg Council is offering rent relief to residents as support during the COVID-19 lockdown.<\/p>\n

At the first full Council meeting held after the election, councillors voted unanimously that residents would not have to pay rent to Council in May.<\/p>\n

This will cost Cherbourg Council – which receives rent rather than rates from residents – an estimated $140,000.<\/p>\n

Mayor Elvie Sandow said she and her fellow Councillors agreed they wanted to help community in any way possible during these tough times.<\/p>\n

She said strengthening council\u2019s commitment to the well-being of residents was more important than ever.<\/p>\n

The rent-free May will be a “one-off”.<\/p>\n

Residents can still choose to pay rent during May to gain a credit on their account.<\/p>\n
