Elvie Sandow will be sworn in as the new Mayor of Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council on Wednesday afternoon following the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission of Queensland.<\/p>\n

Ms Sandow – who was Deputy Mayor in the last Council – received 119 votes after preferences were distributed, securing a clear lead over the other candidates which included incumbent mayor Arnold Murray.<\/p>\n

Not only is she the first woman to lead Cherbourg Council, she is the first female councillor to be elected Mayor in any of the councils that cover the South Burnett region.<\/p>\n

The four other spots around the Cherbourg Council table have also been decided.<\/p>\n

Sitting councillor Tom Langton was re-elected. He will be joined by Bronwyn Douglas, Leighton Costello and Fred Cobbo.<\/p>\n
