Queensland has had 48 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Friday, taking the State’s total to 921.<\/p>\n

This includes 14 new cases reported by Queensland Health since Sunday for which contact tracing has begun.<\/p>\n

Of these 921 cases, 43 patients are currently in hospital, 12 are in intensive care and 10 are on ventilators.<\/p>\n

There have been five deaths.<\/p>\n

In the Darling Downs Health region, there have been 40 confirmed cases. No new cases were reported on either Sunday or Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most cases continue to be in the Metro North Health region (280), followed by Metro South (213), Gold Coast (175) and the Sunshine Coast (84).<\/p>\n

A total of 57,795 tests have been conducted in Queensland.<\/p>\n

Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young told reporters on Monday that COVID-19 testing would now be expanded in the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Cairns areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anyone in these areas who attends a GP or a fever clinic with COVID-19 symptoms – such as a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath – would be tested.<\/p>\n

Testing had previously been restricted to people with symptoms who had arrived from overseas, had contact with a known COVID-19 case or were front-line health workers.<\/p>\n

Dr Young said the expanded testing in these areas would provide a better understanding of the extent of community transmission.<\/p>\n

There are currently 32 cases in Queensland where health authorities have not been able to trace the source of the infection.<\/p>\n

Nationally, there have been 5795 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 40 deaths.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are 448 people in hospital including\u00a096 people in intensive care,\u00a0and 35 on ventilators.<\/p>\n
